The Division Controller is a leadership position








Description
Thermotron, which has evolved into one of the world's premier suppliers of high-performance environmental test equipment, is currently seeking a Division Controller to join our team in Holland, MI.



With over four decades of experience, Thermotron also produces screening and simulation equipment, vibration test systems and functional test systems and integration. We have had the privilege of working with some of the world's greatest companies in a range of industries, developing test equipment for a variety of testing requirements.



POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Division Controller is a leadership position responsible for growing the revenues and profits of the company by providing appropriate coaching and leadership to all areas of accounting operations. The person in this role will provide appropriate technical expertise and information to all operating departments of the organization.



This role directs the financial affairs of the division and prepares financial analysis of operations, including interim and final financial statements with supporting schedules, for the guidance of management. The Divisional Controller also provides leadership and direction over general accounting, cost accounting, credit and collections, payroll, property accounting, internal auditing, data processing, and budgetary development functions.



PRIMARY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Develop, analyze, and interpret statistical and accounting information in order to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against plan and other matters relating to the financial soundness and operating effectiveness of the organization.

· Develop economic forecasts and estimates of financial impact for major objectives and policies of the division and prepare reports that analyze the division’s financial position in the areas of income, expenses, earnings and capital investments, based on past, present, and future operations.

· Provide all operating areas of the division and their staffs with appropriate financial and operating information necessary for effective decision making, assuring information is provided in an accurate, timely, and user-friendly manner.

· Through the departmental staff, maintain the division’s system of accounts and keep books and records on all company transactions and assets.

· Coordinate and direct the preparation of all periodic reporting of financial results, analyzing and reporting variances.

· Furnish internal reports, which can be more useful and efficient in decision making for management.

· Responsiblity for tax planning and compliance with all federal, state(s), countries, and local corporate, payroll, export, and other applicable taxes.

· Determine depreciation rates to apply to capital items and advise management on desirable operational adjustments due to tax revisions.

· Assure protection for the assets of the business through internal controls, internal auditing, obtaining appropriate credits and discounts from suppliers and ensuring proper insurance coverage and timely submission of claims as necessary.

· Keep the President of the holding company informed of the division’s performance and provides advice on all financial matters. Develop and present to the President and Owner matters requiring their decision.

· Assure that qualified personnel are selected, and that orientation and on-the-job training programs are conducted and effective.

· Recognize and reward work team and individual performance of direct reports including appraising performance and recommending wage adjustments or other non-monetary rewards and recognition. Assure that indirect reports are also recognized and rewarded appropriately by their supervisors.

· Provide vision, create an atmosphere, and personally project a leadership style, which supports and enhances a union-free, positive employee relations climate.

· Provide strategic leadership for the development and deployment of empowered, self-directed, work teams throughout the organization.

· Identify training needs, initiate development of staff members, and recommend effective actions to improve the human resource component of the organization.

· Maintain, monitor, and coordinate with the corporate financial office, appropriate banking relationships and accounts necessary for the smooth efficient operation of the business.

· Work to assure continuous improvement of operations supervised. Recommend and implement techniques to improve productivity, increase efficiencies, cut costs, take advantage of opportunities, and maintain up-to-date practices.

Requirements




· Bachelor’s degree in accounting with financial analysis management course work to include coursework or seminars in supervisory and management techniques with exposure to empowerment, coaching, participative management and team building techniques.


· A CPA designation and Master in Business Administration degree are a plus.

· Ten or more years experience including assignments in two or more of the following areas of professional expertise:

o Public accounting

o Manufacturing operations general accounting

o Manufacturing cost accounting to include standard and job cost accounting experience

o Commercial credit and collections experience

· Demonstrated and verified success in developing and deploying financial analysis processes, accounting procedures and controls, and performing quantitative research to identify courses of action.

· We prefer candidates with both domestic and international financial exposure.


WORK DEMANDS:

· Our candidates MUST be willing and able to work extended workdays, flexible hours, and weekends to meet production and business demands. (This position requires candidates to be able to work at least 50 hours per week.)

· You have to be willing and able to operate a vehicle to travel between Thermotron facilities and customer and supplier locations to perform assignments as necessary.
